Zygoma Reduction Plasty

Cheekbone reduction procedure decreases the bone structure of the cheek to generate a more structured overall appearance. Especially, the approach minimizes the distance between the tips of the cheekbones, changing the ratios of the face to enhance the image of the client. In the method, care shall be exercised to extract only appropriate bone to obtain the correct contours and to avoid harming the infraorbital nerve, which provides sensations on the sides of the face. There are two methods – Bone shaving of the cheek and a more invasive osteotomy of the cheekbone.

Zygoma plasty reduction can be achieved by a less severe bone shave or by osteotomy of the cheekbone (bone cuts). Cheek shaving is performed by an intraoral incision and a Dremel-like device is used to extract the extension of the cheekbone. Cheek shaving is also used to say the forward movement of the cheekbones. Although this method can result in some narrowing of the nose, the shaving of the cheek is not necessary to tackle the width of the nose.

In more serious cases, osteotomy of the cheekbone is done under general anesthesia. Incisions may be made from the inside of the mouth in front of both ears to provide sufficient access to the zygomatic bones. The bones are then sliced with a saw, the excessive bone is extracted and then angled inward to create a new form of the face. This shape is then set in place with screws and plates. Incisions shall be covered with dissolvable sutures.
