Septoplasty

Septoplasty is a nose surgery to straighten a deviated septum. The septum, about 7 centimeters long (2.5 to 3 inches) in adolescents, is composed of bone and cartilage. It divides the inside of the nose into two chambers or noses. Septoplasty has been the only way to fix a deviated septum, which can make it hard to breathe through the nose and find it tough to breathe through the mouth. The breathing of the mouth can trigger dry mouth. The failure to breathe through the nose becomes much more difficult at night and can hinder sleep. Septoplasty is also part of several other surgical treatments, including sinus surgery and nasal tumor removal.

The treatment occurs absolutely within the nose. The doctor cuts a wall on one side of the nose, lifting equipment or removes the mucosa, a thin membrane that surrounds and protects the septum. This helps the doctor to reshape the bone and cartilage of the septum. Often sections of the cartilage and bone are cut, reshaped, and readjusted. The mucosa is then placed right over the septum. The professionals can then implant splints or soft packing to keep the nasal tissue in position, avoid nosebleeds, and prevent the development of scar tissue. Typically, the splints live in one to two weeks, and the packaging stays between 24 and 36 hours in the nose. Sometimes they may leave only dissolving stitches, which fade away on their own over the period.

After the Surgery one may feel pain or tenderness on the front of the nose, discomfort due to bulging and nasal irrigation of blood and-or mucous membranes. Surgery swelling may last two to three days, and the drainage may proceed for two to five days. Generally, over-the-counter medicine is appropriate for pain, although a pain reliever may be prescribed by the doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Having doubts and questions? These are few questions our customers normally ask us!

Septoplasty is considered a minor to moderate surgical procedure, primarily focused on the internal structure of the nose, with a relatively straightforward recovery process.

Septoplasty boasts a high success rate, with the majority of patients experiencing significant improvements in breathing and a reduction in related symptoms.

The cost varies based on the complexity of the surgery and the clinic’s location. Elegance Clinic offers competitive pricing without compromising on quality and care.

While primarily aimed at improving function, Septoplasty can result in subtle changes to the nose’s shape, especially when combined with rhinoplasty.

As with any surgery, risks include infection, bleeding, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. However, complications are rare under the care of experienced surgeons like Dr. Ashutosh.
