Compression therapy, which is commonly referred to as pressure therapy for scar management, is an important component of the rehabilitation process for burn patients. As long as elastic bandages or compression garments don’t shear against the skin, they are used to apply pressure to healing burns and grafts. By interfering with collagen production and assisting in the realignment of collagen fibers, this compression helps to reduce the formation of scars. Compression has a number of advantages, including the potential to:

Skin that is prone to irritation should be protected.
Improve the circulation of injured tissues.
Using vascular support, you can reduce the pain in your extremities.
Itching should be reduced.
Scars that are dense and hard should be reduced.
By applying pressure on contracture bands, you can lengthen your skin.
Elastic wrap bandages (Ace Wrap): Initially, these were used to apply pressure to the arms and legs.
Tubular pressure bandages (Tubigrip): Initially, tubular pressure bandages were used to give mild pressure.
Interim care garments are off-the-shelf garments that are used to relieve pressure until custom-made garments become available.
Custom-made garments: Nylon spandex garments are produced to the patient’s measurements by one of the burn compression garment manufacturers.
